From My novel: "Mysterious inheritance " Mary's hands trembled as she turned the key in the heavy front door. Stepping inside, the musty air enveloped her like a bittersweet embrace.
This old house held so many memories - happy childhood days playing with her grandmother. But also reminders of pain that haunted Mary's thoughts.
She breathed deeply trying to calm herself. She had to be strong. This was her refuge now, her chance to start anew.
Still, ghosts of the past lurked in Mary's mind. She could almost hear the angry shouts, feel the distressful memories resurfacing. A tear slipped down her cheek.
For too long, Mary had felt trapped in her own thoughts. Scarred by her father’s cruelty, fearful anxiety had taken root within. His behavior shattered her spirit, planting seeds of distrust she struggled to remove.
Mary yearned to break free from the darkness in her psyche. But the city memories only triggered more disturbance, crowds and noise disturbing the solitude she craved.
Now, surrounded by the familiar setting, Mary felt hope. Here in the countryside she could heal, begin to silence the disturbing voices.
She would revive this home with joy again. Tend the garden where carefree days once bloomed. Sip tea on the porch, focusing on each singing bird to quiet her mind.
