Al Ain (Abu Dhabi) topped the strongest attack in the Gulf Clubs Championship, on a level of the first and second groups, by winning 3-1 against their Yemeni guest Al-Ahli Sana'a at Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium, in the Qatari capital Doha, in the second round of the 'Group 1' that also saw a 1-1 draw between Dhofar Oman and Dohuk Iraq at the Al-Ain Stadium in Salalah. The match against 'Al Ain' saw Ali Mabkhout score two goals for 'Al Ain' in the 7th and 11th minutes, before Nasser Al-Naimi assisted in the 37th minute, while Youssef Al-Hemy scored Al-Ahli Sana'a's only goal in the 43rd minute from a mistake by goalkeeper Ahmed Shambi. The three goals in Al-Ahli Sana'a's net paved the way for 'Al Ain' to top the strongest attack among the eight participating teams in the current edition of the Gulf Clubs Championship, with a total of 8 goals, after 'Al Ain' won 5-2 against their Omani guest Dhofar in the first round. The Al Ain and Al-Ittihad Saudi teams topped their respective groups, with Al Ain leading 'Group 1' and Al-Ittihad leading 'Group 2', which also includes Bahrain's Al-Riffa, Kuwait's Al-Qadsia, and Qatar's Al-Arabi, with 6 points each. Two teams from each group will qualify for the semi-finals, where the first team in Group 1 will face the second team in Group 2, and the first team in Group 2 will face the second team in Group 1, with the final match scheduled for April 25, 2025. On the other hand, Nasser Al-Naimi, a midfielder for 'Al Ain', who celebrated his first goals with the team's first team against Al-Ahli Sana'a, expressed his happiness with the positive result, saying in post-match statements: 'We are happy to have earned three important points before the break, and we aim to build on the positive results in the remaining matches of the tournament.' He added: 'We agreed as players to appear positively before the break, and we hope to continue towards better results.'
