⚡️🇫🇷 NEW - Gendarmes shut down website illegally linking sperm donors with women wanting children, in exchange for cryptocurrency donations.
A man suspected of running a clandestine sperm donation platform called "Childable net" has been arrested by gendarmes from the Lille Research Section.
The site had over 7,000 members at the time of its closure, but it was impossible to count the number of donations.
These exchanges carry many risks: consanguinity, transmission of diseases, sexual offenses.
In France, a donor cannot have more than ten children, which is obviously not the case on these sites.
The suspect himself is said to have made several dozen "donations" since 2018. In police custody, the man admitted the facts, explaining that he wished to have children without taking responsibility for them.
"It is also possible that a donor takes advantage of the vulnerability of women, who have often been on the reproductive journey for months or even years, to push them into accepting a sexual relationship," points out the lieutenant-colonel.
The investigation brought to light that some men were asking for "a donation" in cryptocurrency, often the equivalent of a few hundred euros.
"Some specified this very clearly on their profiles, explaining that it was a form of compensation for transport or accommodation" says Lieutenant-Colonel Audon.
