That was /not/ how I envisaged my day going.
Dad was popping over to change the thermostat on my son's 2007 Camry. ('cause he's a qualified mechanic, and I am definitely not).
It *should* have been a 30 min job. Undo one hose clamp, and two nuts, remove the thermostat housing, replace thermostat, put it all back together.
However, someone has replaced the alternator at some point with an aftermarket one that is ever so slightly bigger than the factory one. This then prevented the thermostat housing from being removed.
A comedy of errors resulted in a damaged serpentine belt, which of course then needed replacing. (this involves removing the front driver's side wheel as well). That in turn required a visit to the auto parts shop to buy one, and a long handle socket break-bar (since I didn't have one). More futzing around and eventually at 5pm (started at 9am), we were done and it was all back together.
This is why I swore off working on Camrys years ago.
