You're right. SpreadMastodon is a bad fit for (a) people who hate Mastodon, (b) people who want alternatives to FB/YT/IG, and (c) developers.
Instead it targets one segment that I'm familiar with: People & orgs in my orbit who want to replace Twitter. I needed something to market to them better and it didn't exist.
That's definitely not the only market segment! I do think it's the most promising, but I welcome anyone pursuing others.
