I chose tools that solve my problems.
A hammer is not a good replacement for a screwdriver. Nowadays we have luxury to choose.
Generalized opinion that Linux ecosystem is not good any longer just show that there's something that escaped your attention.
And when two ppl pointed to it you are still in denial.
BTW, Gentoo took a lot from BSD ... Your skills from FreeBSD would require minimal adaptation. (I've been there done that long ago)
The road is open, and it is up to you to make those steps to learn something new.
But no pressure of any kind, we just have different points of view...
