This is my first novel. It began in a curious way: I was asked to write a story for a stage production. They liked it. They commissioned me to write one each year. In December they staged my sixth. Each was a character "sketch" and those characters (and the fictious town they were in) became the novel -- intersecting characters. So the plot emerged gradually. Some characters were, well, offed. The story(ies) came organically.
