I can't even get started on local open source AI without a significant hardware investment. A local rig to run deepseek costs $6000. And that's ignoring that cursor works out of the box today with no hassle. If there's anything open source that's anywhere close, I haven't heard of it. Next time I buy hardware I will definitely buy something more ai capable, but my current hardware isn't. I'm not planning to replace it for a few years.
