How much do you edit as you write, and how much do you leave to the second draft?
I edit A LOT. I don't even have a 'first draft'. I've always been like this: write some, reread, think about the next steps, write some more, rinse, repeat. In my earliest days, I reread the whole story each time I sat down to write - until the thing became too long. I learned of the don't-edit-while-writing rule long after I'd finished my first books.
To each their own, I guess.
