You already know what bad company does to good morals.
The group normalizes atrocity. They preach that the ridiculous is beautiful and that absurdity is the new rule, simply because the applause beats louder than your brave heart.
In silence, listen. You must always heed the counsel roaring through your arteries, knowing that, though drowned out by the cacophony of public opinion, your conscience preserves the understanding of what is right. Conscience is the marrow of the soul. Do not let your vision be confined to your surroundings. The world is not just made up of six or seven people nodding at you in approval. If that is what you've been taught, seek to understand how far that teaching should carry you. Carry the virtues of your family as a banner, but never be the heir of its flaws—let the failures die with you before you do.
Always seek the truth, even if it costs you everything. Even if it means standing alone against the crowd. Wrong does not become right, even if everyone is doing it. If they place a dagger in your hands, you must decide whether to condemn yourself or sever the ties that bind you to them. There is always more than one choice. But in the end, you alone bear responsibility for what you decide.
+ "A king may move a man, a father may claim a son, but remember that, even when those who move you are kings or men of power, your soul belongs only to you. When you stand before God, you cannot say, ‘But they told me to do this.’ Or that ‘Virtue was not convenient at the time.’ It will not be enough. Remember that."
— King Baldwin IV, *Kingdom of Heaven
