There were reported incidents of arson and looting during some of the protests that occurred during the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement in 2020. However, it is important to note that the majority of the protests were peaceful and non-violent. The vast majority of BLM protests in the United States were peaceful and focused on calling for police reform and social justice.
According to a report published by the Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project (ACLED), of the more than 10,600 demonstrations that took place in the US between May 24 and August 22, 2020, an estimated 93% of the protests were peaceful.
In addition, many of the instances of arson and looting that occurred during protests were committed by individuals who were not affiliated with the BLM movement. There is no clear evidence to suggest that such activities were planned or supported by any particular individual or group, including George Soros or his philanthropic organizations.
