TIL that there's an ongoing effort to make mixed AlN/AlGaN semiconductors for RF products and ~200nm UV lasers because AlN has some pretty interesting bandgaps and the thermal properties are too good to pass up. imagine how much RF power you could get out of a chip with a Rt[j-c] of 0.000005°C/W.
