Id argue it is a double-edged sword. Anonymity encourages "truer" meritocratic judgement from your peers/customers/patients/competitors... and the most significant entity, yourself. The "big mistake" is that anonymity can hamstring your ability to take advantage of the societal network of trust.
Anonymity =\= pseudonymity.
I imagine pure anonymity is exhausting.
