Git was always decentralized.
Everyone contributing has an independent copy of the repo. Anyone from anywhere can send in a patch file to the main guy. If he dies suddenly literally anyone with the repo can take over so long as there is some consensus.
Git is literally as decentralized as email, which, if you are not using gmail or microshit, is near-infinitely, barring spam-deterrence.
You could exchange patch files over any medium. Much like nostr it does not care (much) about the transport medium, just that it gets there intact.
