Nowadays, I feel there is a catastrophic normalization of trivial and unhealthy internet usage, especially with the prevalence of social media, particularly TikTok and short-term content. While we in our circle criticize it and choose not to give it our time or attention, outside of our circle, many kids and disoriented individuals are feeding the monstrous machine, creating a circus to perform and watch themselves endlessly. Currently, it may seem abnormal, and one might hesitate to admit spending hours on TikTok, but in the future, it could become the norm and a kind of hobby. Just like radio replaced printed content, and then television surpassed the radio, the internet, initially created to facilitate communication among educational institutes, has deviated significantly from its initial purpose.
The issue, as I perceive it, lies in the creation of a meta-reality that engulfs us, drawing us into various content without a clear purpose for entering this new realm. Even platforms like YouTube are spiraling out of control, viewed by many as a final refuge for content enjoyment but proving to be more addictive than other services. The world has undergone irreversible change, and there's no turning back.
