When women an girls are forced to live in poverty, they are more likely to suffer the oppression of being forced into prostitution, sex trafficking, child marriages. They are more likely to have to stay in a physically abusive relationship. They are less likely to get an education or to ever to pull themselves out of poverty. All men who say the Patriarchy does ot exist or ask "what rights don't women have?" know this.
They count on it.
They count on global poverty limiting women's choices and makig all forms of exploittion easier.
⚢ Worldwide, women earn nearly 20% less than men.
⚢ Women are 4% more likely than men to live in extreme poverty around the world
⚢ 1 in 3 American women, 42 million women, plus 28 million children, either live in poverty or are right on the brink of it. (The report defines the “brink of poverty” as making $47,000 a year for a family of four.)
⚢ Nearly two-thirds of minimum wage workers are women, and these workers often get zero paid sick days.
⚢ Two-thirds of American women are either the primary or co-breadwinners of their families.
The average woman is paid 77 cents for every dollar a man makes, and that figure is much lower for black and Latina women; African American women earn only 64 cents and Hispanic women only 55 cents for every dollar made by a white man.
⚢ At work, women earn on average 24% less than men, are concentrated in low-paid service sector jobs and are under-represented at higher levels of the workplace
⚢ Women are subjected to a tremendous amount of violence related to their role as women. 21% of women experience sexual harassment at their workplaces
