I am sitting on a conveniently placed bench beside a quiet country lane, opposite the gateway to a woodland where the owner has hung bird feeders. I’ve put a sprinkling of sunflower seeds on the gate posts. There’s nuthatches, siskins, chaffinches, coal tits, blue tits, great tits, robins, dunnocks…and two great spotted woodpeckers came to check it out. Also a big fat squirrel. It’s wonderful.
I’m also eating leftover tarte flambée. I might have to go home and do something more useful but…
