The Police didn't even seem to know current laws/regulations about residence permits and they didn't seem particularly motivated to do the right thing (whatever that may be). Can't blame them, really – the end result is depressing border security theater – in walking distance from #Schengen.
(Next time I shall take the train via Trier instead of the bus via Saarbrücken.)
