Some really good Mt. St. Helens coverage today.
45 years ago on a Sunday morning much like this morning, a lil volcano erupted and my 7 year old mind learned how to manage natural disasters. Since, I have experienced almost every common natural disaster yet the calm before all hell let loose is completely different than the rest.
It took hours to build into an emergency and days before the true extent would be in the town I lived in, Moses Lake, WA. The town with the second highest ash fall totals.
It was crazy seeing roofs collapsed, cars with blown engines everywhere. Everyone in a face covering (unusual for the time).
For a few years every fall we would take a bunch of baby food jars and fill them from the giant piles of ash plowed into lots. We sent them as gifts
