Every time I get a bit pessimistic about the state of the world, I remember this Australian TV kids/teens show called The Girl From Tomorrow and how the year 2500 was a dirty, polluted world where water and paper were really hard to come by, and the year 3000 was green, and clean, mostly forest, and that with "transducers" you could wear on your head to become telekinetic - but that green and clean world had only come about after a terrible war that wiped out most of the people. Yeah.
