Any society needs midwits. There is a theory that the British class system (and more enforced medieval systems) did so well bc the more intelligent drifted up to the class barrier and -> did outstanding everyday work. For 60 years now we (my country) has hundreds in Physics, Chenistry and Engineering who end up in non-productive IT and banking. All these guys built something earlier and now they dont.
Same for e.g. nurses, who rather work where they grew up. Same effect, but global.
