If it's something relevant to research/teaching, I use audiobooks for a first reading to get the big picture or a re-reading to refresh my memory. It's not a substitute for close study of the written text, but a complement to it.
If I find something important to follow up on, or something that sparks a new thought, I'll stop and make a quick audio note about it in Google Keep.
