People like Roberts and Vought are going to try to save Trump from himself through trying to guide him into making a more durable, legalistic, normal-seeming authoritarianism. I suspect there's a pretty high chance that they instead get taken along for the ride, and they have to decide if they're going to do what they can to paper over things on the back end as Trump performs his massive, open power grabs.
Roberts and Vought will ultimately abandon what "principles" they had. Like all that came before them they bet they could control Trump and ride him to their own ends, and they'll learn that doesn't work.
