I wouldn't leave the pumps fixed, as we can have volcanoes erupt in other places later. But seawater spraying was useful in Vestmannaeyjar. Without it, the harbour would have been lost, and the habitability of Heimaey would have gone way, way down.\n\nWater coming from underneath is more useful, though (if the ground can retain it near the surface), as the steam has to pass through the entire flow, drawing out heat en route.",
