I suspect most of these cretins are horrific to their own children. Same goes for movie stars and famous musicians. I think one of the more difficult temptations in this life is power/riches/fame. Once one's own ego swells to such a large proportion, it's hard for anything else to find room in one's heart.

There's a reason Christ said it was as hard as a camel making its way through a needle's eye as it was for a rich man to find his way into Heaven.
