For me, a 60% keyboard is perfect. I use caps lock as a combo control/escape key and I have the modifiers in the bottom left corner mapped to act as arrow keys when tapped and modifiers when held.
I like having my mouse closer, and I like being able to use the keyboard on my lap easily. Oh, and I hate having to change when I use a laptop, and my layout allows that to be consistent.
