I think if you have a supergun/cab, and you buy one of the single-slot JAMMA-ish units (JAMMA+ extra buttons, no stereo audio etc) and there's no visible battery damage, there's not a lot to them.
The NG-specific pinout with the stereo audio complicates things, and the multi-slot ones are often a pain, but otherwise they're pretty hardy I think?
