The issue is escalation. Once it is openly admitted that this is a war of NATO vs. Russia (it is) a lot of Russians are then going to be publicly asking some uncomfortable questions. Like:
>If Poland is supplying the Ukraine with troops and materiel, why aren't we bombing them and cutting those supply lines?
>If Romania is allowing US recon planes and drones access to the Black Sea from their territory, why are those airbases still intact?
>If Lithuania is threatening to cut off access to our Kaliningrad exclave, why haven't we already sent in the troops and turned them back into a province?
And so on. The RF seems to have adopted a Fabian incremental strategy in order to bleed NATO white. I don't know if this is the right answer. I don't get invited to the cool meetings.
