Whenever “universal” basic income has been trialled - unconditional payments for specific groups, so not actually universal as it would be in a sane world - research shows zero negative impact on recipients’ willingness to work. In fact, indications suggest the reverse is true. When people know they have a risk-free safety net, they are better able to take risks
