I did some more reading and I *think* you can have an onion address quite easily (they mention it in the masto docs) but need to have a clearweb address too (I guess, because otherwise how would messages be accessible from clearweb). Being on a dynamic ip, the way onion addresses work is actually kinda better for me in several ways (dynamic ip being one of them) hence looking into this avenue.
