"IF it becomes a national law"
This is not my understanding of how the EU works after the Treaty of Lisbon was made effective in 2009. It seems to me that national governments have a lot less power to override law in areas where the Union has the power to make them nowadays.
But, I hope it will work out š One thing the EU *definitely* does better than the US is listen to public opinion at the end of the day š
