Running StartOS on a 2014 MacBook pro. Overall solid performance and uptime.
Pros:
Install was super easy via USB. I opted for the expanded version that has more drivers in hopes that it would make the wifi work (it didn't) so it's connected via Ethernet.
I run Core, LND, Electrs, RTL, lightning terminal.
They have a super simple way to Migrate existing lightning channels from other node boxes like Umbrel and Mynode. I migrated my channels from Mynode and it worked perfectly.
Performance and uptime are great. It works...
Cons:
UI is very basic and not as intuitive as some other node in a box solutions.
Not all services have a local LAN option to connect to which kind of sucks. EG electrum server. You have to connect via TOR even though both the node and the computer are on local LAN. Makes things slower.
No Dojo/Whirlpool options. For some reason Start 9 does not want to officially support these sovereign, privacy enhancing tools 🤷♂️ and no one in the alternative app store has ported it over either. Kind of weird considering their moto of sovereign computing...
It looks like their upcoming 4.0 update will enhance and fix all of the above mentioned cons except the dojo/whirlpool part.
Hope this helps.
