I decided to look it up out of curiosity.
When my parents were starting out the average industrial wage (ie. working a mcjob) was just under £7,000. They earned roughly the price of a new house every year.
I couldn't find exactly the same stat, but average earnings in manufacturing is around €25,000. That's roughly a tenth of the price of a new house per year.
We are being royally fucked.
