It's how you go about it that matters. Nobody is blocking my-sponsors-advert.jpg they're blocking unknown ads with tracking. you can still show advertisers how may unique views you've had but I guess the underlying theme for them is they don't trust your stats and would rather trust a 3rd party - hence using, for example, Google. Having a shitty relationship with your target audience (tracking) and the site that's providing advertising space (distrust), doesn't seem like a great idea to me.
