The main issue from a security standpoint isn't what's in there (the big power pulls tend to be things like refrigerators and air conditioning and such) but determining patterns of usage over the 24 hour cycle.
But the real issue is that consumers are given the impression the systems are secure "nobody can see your data but you!" when the protocols are not. 2G has been shut down widely and soon will be totally extinct.
