I still have a deeply ambivalent relationship with Masto, but I’ll say this much: the follow-farmers never took root here, and they’ve overrun Bluesky. Mastodon was good practice in following a sweet spot of good accounts, but not too many, and actually being judicious in follow-backs. Some of the early guidance I got here was to follow as many people as possible and then winnow down, which worked because my feed was initially overrun with Far Side cartoons, Linux convos, and Trump memes.
