I think this is a a bug in chachi 😅 What is happening is that since both groups are top-level relay groups (they both have the special identifier `_`) the query I'm using to get the replies returns the same results for both. For top-level relay groups I need to make sure to only get the replies from the relay and not the cache. Great find, thanks for the report!
