I am someone who struggles with suicidal ideation. In my struggles I have found solace in working 1:1 with a lot of people who are suicidal.

One thing that I am continually bothered by is how everyone who doesn’t struggle with suicidal ideation and even people who do not know you at all feel so strongly that you should continue to live.

I firmly believe in autonomy in both life and in death. We do not need to be forcing people to continue to live if they do not wish to. Life should have a guilt and pain free opt out button.

I will forever advocate for adequate mental health services to those who need. But once someone has made up their mind and every resource has been exhausted for them—stop forcing them to live because you cannot familiarize yourself with the idea that death is a very natural part of life and should be a choice.

Don’t worry…I am not having suicidal ideation at this time. It’s just a side effect of PTSD it would seem and I manage it alright. 🫶🏻
