A morbid observation from the elections in November 2022 that shows an insight into a weakness of fascism:
Kari Lake, denier of democracy, lost by 17k votes in Arizona.
Arizona had north of 31k COVID deaths.
That's not a direct overlap. But COVID deaths skew elderly, which skews conservative, which skews GOP, which skews MAGA, which skews COVID denial. And even if someone was not a COVID denier, if they were elderly they would tend to vote GOP.
Fascism is all about destruction. It doesn't build things, its method and reason for existence is to deny, exclude, punish, and attack based on perceptions of superiority, entitlement and exclusion. Its driving forces are prideful ignorance and straightforward indecency. We oppose it for many reasons, not least of which is that it hurts our country. But this damage backfires.
