Podcasting 2.0 was meant to mirror Web 2.0 (which was 1st coined in 1999 by Darcy DiNucci over 25 yrs ago) It was later popularized by O'Reilly Media during the Web 2.0 Conference in 2004.
I think podcasting missed a marketing trick. It should have been called Podcasting 3 to mirror Web 3. Web 3 characteristics are data portability, decentralisation, ownership and monetisation.
I believe RSS has all of these traits today. Often people confuse RSS 2.0 and Podcasting 2.0 - should it change?
