I wouldn't go so far as to say that Barcelona, India, and Italy are examples of successful governments in and of themselves. However, they are certainly examples of how various forms of governance - such as participatory democracy, communalism, and syndicalism - can be successfully implemented in different contexts and provide an alternative to free market capitalism.
