After a few quarrels, I never say "this was AI generated" anymore. I downgrade, saying "this text is vague, full of unmerited self-congratulation, and it completely misses the point of the assignment." And then I link the AI clause from the syllabus as a hint.
Probably I am missing some of it -- where students actually go back and forth with the thing -- but the students who just feed the assignment directly into the prompt are easy to identify.
