also it's unclear to me what's going on in the CPU specifically to limit RAM, since in theory it should be 48 bits of address space in the x64 family, which is a hell of a lot of RAM
maybe socket I/O I guess? if you save 12 I/O lines per core in a multicore processor by limiting it to 36 bits, that adds up fast in these modern CPUs
