This is deeply disrespectful to #SouthAfrica, untrue, and won’t age well. America risks severing one diplomatic tie after another by reckless statements like this. All he had to say is that “we won’t comment on a proceeding before the ICJ before it is litigated.” This makes America look deeply unserious by calling the claim filed “baseless,” when American lawyers who appear before the ICJ are saying the opposite.
