There is a trend in the last year or maybe two, in country music to write new songs that reference older songs. These all seem to be in homage to the songs and performers who influenced this new generation of artists.
I'm not looking to talk trash about this nostalgia, but it strikes me as odd. I'm trying to remember anything similar in rock.
Lynyrd Skynyrd references Southern Man, but that was more of a fuck you to Neil Young.
Can anyone point to this in rock?
