Topázio underwent surgery to remove the gallbladder in the morning of Wednesday, 28th. According to a medical bulletin released by the Florianópolis City Hall, the medical procedure was uneventful and Topázio's condition is stable, with a forecast for discharge within the next 24 hours. The gallbladder is an organ responsible for storing bile, a liquid produced by the liver that helps digest fats. Cholecystitis is an inflammation of the gallbladder. The inflammation that affected Topázio was caused by the formation of a solid residue in the organ, called a gallstone, and a thick liquid called bile sludge. These formations caused abdominal pain in the mayor during Tuesday. Topázio was vice-mayor between 2021 and 2022, during the administration of Gean Loureiro (then with MDB, now with União Brasil). He took over the city's executive in March 2022, when Loureiro resigned from office to run for state governor.
