OK, now is the time to mansplain because I need to make sure I understand this Meta thing.
Meta is going to launch a Twitter-esque experience from Instagram and push into the fediverse. They must be looking to add new users as just pushing IG and FB users into the fediverse is kind of dumb. "Meta users who are already using Meta platforms, we created a new Meta platform for you to continue to be Meta users." That does not make sense.
I'm guessing the new users they are hoping to scoop up are Twitter users. We know there are a whole bunch over on Twitter that expressed interest in leaving that platform, but found Mastodon and the fediverse "too hard."
Also guessing Meta isn't really thinking that a lot of current Mastodon and fediverse users will jump ship to Metafediland because a majority of us are either early adopters who are quite committed to not doing Twitter-esque Meta type things, or the pre-Musk or the Twitter transplants, who arrived after the Muskification and may be carrying grudges.
