The way Bezos et al was allowed to keep operating while "mom and pop" or just "mom" stores were shuttered for COVID was very telling.
Bezos, at least, has created a lot of value for realz, but a lot more of his fortune has been simply appropriated via privileged access to state violence. "Putting society to work for you", as the Senator who wrote "Confessions of a Monopolist" put it.
