So according to Alex Gleason 🐍🚬 (nprofile…al0v) And my own brief reading of their protocol, hosting your own instance, isn't like hosting a mastodon instance like I had kind of assumed. It is not a totally independent but federated server.

It gives you more control over your data, but everything is generally synced back to their primary giga server.

Has anyone ever tried hosting a blue sky instance yet? It would be kind of interesting to see what would happen if we spun up a Bitcoin/ nostr instance.

My guess is it would probably go a lot like the Fediverse where we would be siloed to our own instance pretty quickly because people would block us like crazy. But it could be a fun experiment nonetheless.
