Get government out. Get better outcomes.
My family will be doing a bit of medical tourism this year, specifically in Morocco, where samah (npub19pj…lenu) is from. Why?
1. They are largely a free market system with intense competition among small, independent clinics and practitioners.
2. As a result, they do things Americans can hardly conceive of, like communicating directly and freely (over WhatsApp) with prospective clients (not 'patients'). The response times are incredible.
3. They give to get. Our selected team is already laying out the plan of care before they've received a single payment.
4. When it does come time to pay, we know what we'll pay, to the penny. Why? Because they provide a retail price list for everything, up front.
5. Quality of care. When we lived there, I visited a few clinics for routine dental to eye care. The clinics are beautiful, modern, and staff treated me like a king.
6. Price. 10x lower than the same plan of care in the US. Yes, 10x.
Short of blowing up HIPAA, Obamacare, Medicare, and the like, I see no chance of the kind of changes needed to achieve the same in the U.S.
Meanwhile, go where you and your money are treated best.
